DOORTRI
“Tight, Fast, Loud, Provocative” (Elliott Sharp)
The sound of DOORTRI is drawn from the roots and experiences of the three musicians involved and the dialogue between them is created and reflected from their own particular voices, interests and influences.
The trio alternate between more structured written pieces and pieces either wholly or partially improvised- the objective being a sound in constant flux and evolution that is designed to resist being easily classified.
Their sound is a loose emulsion that shifts freely between the harshness of hardcore punk and free noise to radical improvisation through to more melodic and peaceful interludes that hint at a more “classical” repertoire while containing elements of Japanese electronica and minimalism. Moments of satire and irony often undercut and flow beneath moments veering between tradition and the unexpected before giving way to colder, darker moods with the boundaries blurring between the two styles.
During live performance, however, the atmosphere changes. Structure becomes a starting point for extended periods of improvisation which successively gains a weight and momentum allowing the collective nature of the trio to open up and stretch out into newer spaces both as soloists, as duets and as a trio demonstrating fully the seven possible combinations of the three musicians.
